Third Annual Large Works Show at ICON Gallery
December 4, 2009 - February 6, 2010

ICON Gallery will open its Third Annual Large Works Show on the 1st Friday Art Walk, December 4th, 6:30 to 10:00 pm. For the last three years gallery Director and Curator Bill Teeple has been scouring the state to bring to Fairfield large format works by some of the best artists in the region. This year he has partnered with two of the premier contemporary art galleries in Des Moines to bring eight Des Moines artists to Fairfield. Two Fairfield artists and one Chicago artist are also included this year. The show continues through February 6th.

“We are very happy to be establishing these relationships with some of the top venues in Iowa, says Teeple. “Olson Larson Gallery is providing five paintings and Moberg Gallery six paintings. I think the Fairfield audience will enjoy getting a glimpse of some great work that has never been shown here before.”

Half of the paintings in the show are non representational abstractions, what Teeple likes to call music in visual form. The other pieces are an unusual mix of representative works ranging from realistic to surrealistic. Robert Hoerlein’s newest work straddles the boundary between representational and non-representational.

Artists included are Heather Brammeier, Michael Brangoccio, Karen Chesterman, John Phillip Davis, Ken Dubin, Robert Hoerlein, Larassa Kabel, Travis Rice, Cornelis Ruhtenberg, Jim Weidle and Ignatius Widiapradja. We are lucky to be able to see the work of the grand lady, now deceased, of the Des Moines art scene, Cornelis Ruhtenberg.

ICON Gallery is located at 58 North Main Street in Fairfield, Iowa. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday noon to 4:00pm or by appointment. For information call (641) 469-6252 or email bill@icon-art.org.
