ICON IOWA 2008
May 2nd - July 19th, 2008

On Friday, May 2nd, Iowa Contemporary Art (ICON) launches its inaugural Iowa invitational show, an annual event to celebrate artists of Iowa. The show titled ICON IOWA 2008, features artists from Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Fairfield. It continues through July 19th.

“The show has been developing for over a year,” says ICON Artistic Director, Bill Teeple. “It started out as the second part of the grand opening of our new gallery. The theme was ‘New Connections’ we were making all over the state. However, the show had to be cancelled. We have finally mounted the show and have decided to do an Iowa invitational every year. It will be an opportunity to share with the Fairfield audience a variety of established and emerging artists from the region.”

The show includes Susan White, John Dilg and Julia Schwadron of the University of Iowa. Matthew Kluber of Cedar Rapids will complete in this show the cycle of work he has been presenting at ICON over the past few months. Up and coming Des Moines conceptual photographer Ryan Jennings Clark will present his collection of works titled Subjective Memory. Jane Gilmor of Mount Mercy College will present unique sculptural pieces.

“I have also included a few Fairfield artists that we have not yet shown much at ICON or whose pieces just really fit the show,” says Teeple. ”They include, Geoffrey Baker, Elaine Duncan, Shannon Kennedy, Lawrence Sheaff and Jim Weidle.”

ICON Gallery is located at 58 North Main Street in Fairfield, Iowa. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday noon to 4:00pm. For information call (641) 469-6252 or email bill@icon-art.org.
